How's that for an attempt at humor? Please help?

See, my supervisor has no sense of humor, and I want to get rid of the jokes that I had Valedictorian in my speech that mocked people (the same people laughed when they heard what I said). Anyway, she wants these comments off, then I have to try to make it a little interesting, at least so I thought of a comparison. "School is like popcorn. We began as kernels. First, we placed in the microwave that is school. We are placed in the middle. In elementary, some of the nuclei started to pop. Then in high school, everyone began to appear. By school, the whole bag was cooking, and we were ready for the world as we were not burned. * Pause * Sorry to be so sentimental. "What you think? That's nothing compared to what I had originally, but you think this will end well? Oh yeah, that's not all. Most of it is very serious, but I'm trying to add in some humor.

The idea of popcorn could perhaps be used, although it does not sound like a Valedictorian speech. You have to cut many of the details. That sounds very childish as written. What would be better something like: "Education is like a bag of microwave popcorn. Each of the beans are carefully placed in bag. Enter, small and insignificant and emerge completely transformed parts from popcorn. Today, we celebrate the fact that we are now ready to begin a new stage life as fully transformed adults ready to assume our roles in society. "Actually, I dislike the whole idea of popcorn, but if you really want to use it, you'll have to leave out some of his humor. This is supposed to be a serious speech. finish it with some kind of joke, as "final words."
