speech act theory
What do modern pirates do?

I am writing a speech about the Bermuda Triangle, and I just want to make sure I have my facts right. Here is what I wrote: Another, although less likely, theory is the act of piracy. Yes, that's right. There are the real-life pirates. They may not have the legs and a piece of wood over their eyes, but they still steal and kidnap boat crew members. I just want to be sure, the last sentence makes sense

they pretty much do what the pirates did back in the day. but they now have faster boats and better weapons. and increased global warming is inversely proportional to the decrease in piracy since 1700, or something.
